Baseball Drops Finale to Bryant
Blue Devils will play on the road at Quinnipiac beginning on Thursday
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision in the series finale vs. Bryant on Sunday afternoon in New Britain. With the loss Central is 21-23 overall and 10-14 in Northeast Conference action. Bryant is now 33-14-1 overall and 20-4 in the leeague.
After a scoreless first three innings the Bulldogs scored two runs on three hits in the top of the fourth inning off of Blue Devil sophomore starter Casey Brown. Robby Rinn drove in two two-out runs with a double in the inning.
The Blue Devils cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth inning. Senior Mike Washburn led off the inning with a double and went to third on a ground out. He scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1.
The Bulldogs added a run in the top of the eighth inning on a suicide squeeze, making the score 3-1. Central cut it to 3-2 on a pinch-hit RBI single from sophomore Ryan Beal in the bottom of the eighth. With men on first and second junior J.P. Sportman appeared to single through the right side, but the batted ball hit the runner and put an end to the inning and the threat.
Bryant added three runs in the top of the ninth inning to push the lead to 6-2. Central went in order in the ninth inning.
The Blue Devils are off during the week, and will play on the road at Quinnipiac in an NEC series beginning on Thursday at 3 p.m.
