Baseball Drops Doubleheader on Saturday
Blue Devils and Bulldogs finish weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a doubleheader to visiting Bryant on Saturday, losing both games by the score of 4-1. With the losses CCSU is now 21-22 overall and 10-13 in Northeast Conference play. Bryant is 32-14-1 overall and 19-4 in the league.
In game one, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning off of Blue Devil junior starter Nick Neumann. A two-out two-run double from Robby Rinn scored runners from second and third.
Central cut it to 2-1 on a sacrifice fly from junior J.P. Sportman in the bottom of the first.
Bryant added to its lead, making it 4-1, with a pair of two-out runs in the fourth inning.
Neumann pitched the complete game for the Blue Devils but fell to 4-4 on the season with the loss. He retired the final 10 batters of the game after allowing a pair of runs in the first and two more in the fourth. Bryant had eight hits and Neumann struck out four.
Central had just two hits in game one. Bryant's Kevin McAvoy moved to 4-2 on the season with the complete game victory.
In game two the Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning of game two. With two outs sophomore pitcher Dominic Severino singled to the third baseman and scored DelaCruz who had singled earlier in the inning.
Bryant took a 2-1 lead on a pair of two out runs in the sixth inning. The first came on a pinch-hit two-out RBI single from Karl Anderson, the second on an RBI double from Rinn. Two more runs in the seventh pushed the Bryant lead to 4-1.
The Blue Devils and Bulldogs will finish the weekend series on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.
