Rhode Island Tops Baseball 10-5
Central travels to Bryant on Thursday for a weekend series
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped to 15-10 overall on the season dropping a 10-5 home decision to Rhode Island on Wednesday afternoon. The loss is just the second at home this season for the Blue Devils, who are now 9-2 in New Britain.
The Rams improve to 14-13 overall with their fourth straight victory. The Blue Devils continue action on the road in a weekend series at Bryant beginning Thursday at 3 p.m.
Rhode Island got on the board first with a pair of runs in the first inning off of Blue Devils freshman starter Mike Krukiel.
The Blue Devils tied the game with a pair of runs in the second inning. Sophomore Dylan DelaCruz and junior Chris Renzoni singled to lead off the inning, and went to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. DelaCruz scored on a wild pitch, and Renzoni scored on an RBI single from sophomore Josh Ingham to make it 2-2.
The Rams scored three in the top of the third inning to make it 5-2. Freshman Dominic Severino relieved Krukiel on the mound for the Blue Devils after the third batter of the inning.
Central got a pair back in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-4. The pieced together four straight hits, and paired with a couple of Ram errors were unable to cut the lead to one.
Renzoni's RBI single in the sixth inning tied the score at 5-5. It was his second hit of the game.
Rhode Island retook the lead in the eighth inning with a single run off of Severino. They added four in the ninth to make it 10-5.
The Blue Devils return to Northeast Conference action on Thursday on the road at Bryant. The two teams will play a single game on Thursday, a doubleheader on Friday and a final single game on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
