Baseball Drops Series Opener to Sacred Heart on Friday
The Central Connecticut baseball team had its four-game winning streak stopped with a 7-4 home loss to Sacred Heart on Friday. The game was the first of a four-game weekend series with the Pioneers. With the loss Central falls to 23-18-1 overall and 15-10 in Northeast Conference play. Sacred Heart is 24-20 overall and 16-9 in league action.

Central scored three runs in the second inning off Sacred Heart
starter Troy Scribner. The first four batters of the inning
reached base, including a two-run single to center field from
freshman Anthony
Turgeon. Sophomore Andy
Lalli's sacrifice fly scored senior Sean
Miller-Jones who had singled earlier in the inning, making it
3-0.
The Pioneers scored a pair of unearned runs in the fourth inning to
make it 3-2. Following an error by the Blue Devils, Rob Griffith
and John Murphy each singled home runs to cut the lead to one.
Sacred Heart scored four more in the sixth inning. Griffith
homered to lead off the inning, and a second run scored on a
throwing error, giving the Pioneers their first lead. Dave
Boisture hit a two-run home run with two outs to push the lead to
6-3.
Central got a run back in the seventh inning. With no outs
freshman Dylan
DelaCruz's sacrifice fly scored junior Danny
Hickey. Hickey led off the inning with a single.
Sacred Heart got the run back in the eighth on an RBI double with
two outs from Derick Horn.
Freshman J.P. Sportman was 3-for-3 with a run scored in the loss.
Turgeon had three hits and his two RBI. Todd Savatsky got the loss
on the mound, falling to 5-4 on the season. He pitched 5.2 innings
allowing five runs, three of them earned and struck out two. All
12 hits for the Blue Devils were singles.
The Blue Devils and Pioneers continue their weekend series with a
seven-inning doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
