Baseball Wins Big at Quinnipiac, 26-3

The Central Connecticut baseball team turned in a dominating performance on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils were led by two homeruns each from seniors Pat Epps and Sean Miller-Jones. Central scored in bunches, posting three or more runs in each of their six scoring innings. The Blue Devils 26-3 victory gives them a 20-17-1 record and a 12-9 mark in Northeast Conference action.

The Blue Devils jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning. The Blue Devils scored three runs on four hits in the frame with Epps and freshman J.P. Sportman each picking up RBI singles in the frame.

Miller-Jones helped the Blue Devils score three runs in both the third and fourth innings. In the third he launched his third homerun of the year, a two run shot, and then in the fourth he launched a three run homerun. The blasts helped Central build a 9-2 lead.

Miller-Jones picked up another RBI on a double in Central's seven run fifth inning. Sophomore Andy Lalli also had a run scoring single in the inning as the Blue Devils blew the game open at 16-2.

The Blue Devils tacked on five runs in the seventh and five more in the ninth. Epps homered in both innings. He hit a three run shot in the seventh and then launched a solo homerun to lead off the ninth inning.

Sophomore Todd Savatsky earned the win for the Blue Devils he improves to 5-3 on the season. He went seven innings and allowed three runs, one earned, and struck out five while allowing nine hits. Sophomore Donny Crook and junior Nate Sturgis each worked a scoreless frame in relief to protect the 26-3 victory.

Junior Mitch Wells finished the game five-for-seven at the plate. Epps went four-for-seven and had five RBIs. Miller-Jones had six RBI in the win for the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. tomorrow.
