Baseball Tops Stony Brook 5-4
The Central Connecticut baseball team defeated Stony Brook 5-4 on Thursday afternoon. The win improves the Blue Devils to 15-12-1 on the season. Freshman Anthony Turgeon hit a two run homerun with two outs in the fourth inning to put the Blue Devils ahead for good. Freshman J.P. Sportmann finished the game two-for-four with an RBI for the Blue Devils.

Pat Cantwell led off the game for the Seawolves with a line drive triple to right center. He scored on a sacrifice fly. Another double and a two out single gave Stony Brook a 2-0 lead after their opening at bat.
Junior Jake Matuszak singled to open the game for the Blue Devils, and advanced to second on a passed ball and then to third on a wild pitch. With one out junior Mitch Wells doubled to right scoring Matuszak. Senior Pat Epps then tied the game with a single to leftfield.
Stony Brook took the lead in the top of the third on a two out double, but the Blue Devils answered in the bottom half. With two outs senior Sean Miller-Jones doubled to leftfield and Sportman singled to center tying the game.
After falling behind 4-3 in the top of the fourth the Blue Devils answered with a pair of runs. Freshman Dylan DelaCruz led off the inning with a single through the left side and then with two outs Turgeon wrapped a homerun around inside pole in right. The two run shot gave the Blue Devils a 5-4 lead, it was the first homerun of his career.
The pitching staffs settled down after the fourth inning and neither team scored again.
Sportman and Matuszak each recorded a pair of hits in the game for Central. Turgeon recorded the big knock, a two run homerun that proved to be the game winner. Wells, Epps and Sportman each drove in a run for the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Todd Savatsky allowed four runs in the first four innings, but settled down in the fifth, sixth and seventh to earn the victory. He improves to 4-2 on the season. He struck out four and walked two in his seven innings.
The Blue Devils return to action tomorrow in a nonconference game at Fairfield.
