Baseball Scores Four Ninth Inning Runs to Top Rhode Island 7-5

Trailing 5-3 in the ninth inning, the Central Connecticut baseball team scored four runs in the final frame to win on the road, 7-5, on Tuesday in Kingston, RI. The win is the second straight for Central, and improves their overall record to 8-8-1 on the season. They return to action on Friday in Northeast Conference action at Monmouth beginning at 3 p.m.

Central struck first with three runs in the top of the first inning. Junior Mitch Wells singled in a pair of runs and senior Pat Epps scored on a passed ball to give the visitors the lead. The Rams plated two in the bottom of the inning off of Blue Devil freshman starter Jesse Frawley to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Blue Devils trailed 5-3 heading into the top of the ninth inning. They scored four runs, including two with two outs and the score tied at 5-5, to earn the non-conference victory.

Sophomore Tyler Caserta capped the win with a two-RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning. He finished the game with a pair of hits and his two RBI. Wells also added two RBI in the first inning to help in the victory.

Junior A.J. Lowers and freshman J.P. Sportman each had RBIs in the ninth inning.

Junior lefty Jason Foster earned the victory on the mound, pitching two innings and striking out two while facing just six batters. Sophomore Donny Crook pitched two innings allowing just one run. Frawley pitched five innings allowing nine hits and four runs while striking out one.

The Blue Devils return to NEC action this weekend on the road at Monmouth beginning on Friday.
