topped Wagner 5-3 in the first game of the Northeast Conference
Tournament on Thursday afternoon. The game was played at TD Bank

winner's bracket on Friday and will play top seed Sacred Heart at

win is the 30th of the season for the Blue Devils.
Wagner struck first in the top of the fourth inning when Vin Avella
hit a solo home run to right field with one out. The lead reached
2-0 on an RBI double from Kevin McDonnell with two outs in the
inning.
Central struck back in the bottom of the inning. Senior Kyle
Zarotney singled home the first run of the game for the Blue
Devils to cut the lead to 2-1. The Blue Devils left the bases
loaded again in the fourth inning, the second straight inning.
They left eight men on base in the first four innings.
Wagner scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning on an
RBI single from Seth Boyd. The single scored Avella who reached on
an error to lead off the inning.
The Blue Devils tied the game with a couple of runs in the sixth
inning. Senior Sean Allaire singled to
plate the first run of the inning. Senior Richie Tri singled to
left field to move Allaire to third, and the throw to get Allaire
at third went by the third baseman and out of play, allowing
Allaire to score and tie the game at 3-3.
The Blue Devils took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh
inning, but not without a little controversy. With two outs in the
inning and a man at first base, sophomore Danny Hickey hit what
appeared to be a home run to left field. The ball was ruled to
have hit the top of the wall and bounced back into play, but the
runner scored and Central took the one run lead.
CCSU added an insurance run in the eighth inning. Tri singled and
went to third on a double down the left field line by junior Pat
Epps. Senior Tommy Meade's sacrifice fly
made it 5-3 in favor of the Blue Devils.
Krasnowiecki pitched his fifth complete game of the season for his
seventh victory. He allowed only two earned runs in the win and
struck out six while scattering nine Wagner hits. He faced more
than four batters in an inning only twice in the game.
The Blue Devils advance to play top seed Sacred Heart on Friday at
3:30 p.m. The top-seeded Pioneers defeated fourth-seed Monmouth
5-4 in the opener on Thursday afternoon.
