Danny Hickey Homers and Drives in Two as Blue Devils Top Wagner on Sunday
Sophomore catcher Danny Hickey homered and drove in a pair of runs as the Central Connecticut State University baseball team topped Wagner 5-3 on Sunday. The win gives the Blue Devils three wins in four games in the Northeast Conference weekend series. With the victory Central improves to 26-19 overall and 15-13 in NEC play. Wagner drops to 21-29 overall and 13-15 in the NEC.

drove in a pair of runs as the Central Connecticut State University
baseball team topped Wagner 5-3 on Sunday. The win gives the Blue
Devils three wins in four games in the Northeast Conference weekend

15-13 in NEC play. Wagner drops to 21-29 overall and 13-15 in the
NEC.
Wagner struck first with a single run in the top of the first
inning off of Blue Devil starter Tommy Meade.
The Blue Devils tied it up at 1-1 in the third inning. Junior Sean
Miller-Jones singled through the right side to score senior Kyle
Zarotney who had been hit by a pitch.
The Seahawks scored a run on an RBI groundout in the fourth inning
to take a 2-1 lead.
Central tied it 2-2 in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single up
the middle from senior Anthony Scialdone.
Sophomore Mitch Wells had walked,
stole second and then scored from third on the single.
Sophomore Danny Hickey gave the Blue
Devils their first lead of the game in the fifth inning. With one
out he hit his second home run of the season down the right field
line to make it 3-2. Wagner tied it again with a run in the
seventh.
Hickey's second RBI of the day, a sacrifice fly in the bottom of
the seventh, gave the Blue Devils the 4-3 lead. A second run
scored on a throwing error by the Wagner third baseman and scored
the inning's second run.
Miller-Jones and Scialdone each drove in a run. Hickey had two and
his second home run of the season in the win. Meade had a pair of
hits and Zarotney scored two runs.
Meade pitched the first 6.1 innings for the Blue Devils allowing
three earned runs and 10 hits. He did not factor in the decision
and struck out two. Lefty Donny White picked up the
victory on the mound, pitching the final 2.2 innings without
allowing a run. He improves to 2-1 on the season.
The Blue Devils return to action next weekend hosting Long Island
in the final regular season NEC series of the year. It begins on
Friday at 3 p.m. in New Britain.
