Allaire's Grand Slam and Five RBI Lead Blue Devils to NEC Win Over Wagner
Senior Sean Allaire drove in five runs, including a grand slam, as the Central Connecticut State University baseball team topped Wagner 10-5 on Friday afternoon. The Blue Devils are now 24-18 overall and 13-12 in Northeast Conference play. Wagner falls to 20-27 overall and 12-13 in the league. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday in New Britain beginning at 1 p.m.
Senior Sean Allaire drove in five
runs, including a grand slam, as the Central Connecticut State
University baseball team topped Wagner 10-5 on Friday afternoon.
The Blue Devils are now 24-18 overall and 13-12 in Northeast
Conference play. Wagner falls to 20-27 overall and 12-13 in the
league. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday in New
Britain beginning at 1 p.m.
The Blue Devils loaded the bases in the first inning with one out
but couldn't take advantage and didn't score. They loaded them
again in the second, and sent 11 men to the plate while scoring six
runs. With no outs junior Sean Miller-Jones singled
through the right side to score the games' first run. Allaire hit
his 12th home run of the season, and his second grand slam in as
many weekends. With men on first and second sophomore Mitch
Wells singled to left center to make it 6-0.
Wagner answered with four runs in the top of the third inning,
including a three-run home run by Brian Martutartus.
Allaire drove in his fifth run of the game in the third inning to
make it 7-4. He plated Miller-Jones who had doubled with one
out.
Two more runs in the sixth inning gave the Blue Devils a 9-4 lead.
With men on first and second junior Pat Epps doubled down the
left field line to score Allaire, who had singled to lead off the
inning. Senior Tommy Meade's RBI groundout
scored the second run of the inning.
The Seahawks scored one in the seventh to cut the lead to 9-5.
Senior Richie Tri drove in a run in
the eighth to make it 10-5.
Allaire finished the game with three hits, including the grand
slam. Epps had a pair of hits and drove in one. Tri, Miller-Jones
and Wells each added an RBI in the victory.
Sophomore lefty Jason Foster picked up the
victory on the mount to improve to 2-2 on the season. He pitched
five innings allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out
two. Freshman Nick Neumann pitched four
innings of relief allowing just two hits and a run. He struck out
three to earn his first career save.
The Blue Devils and Seahawks will continue their weekend series
with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
