Allaire Homers Four Times and Drives in 10 Runs as Blue Devils Sweep Mount St. Mary's on Saturday

Senior Sean Allaire hit four home runs and drove in 10 runs as the Central Connecticut State University baseball team rebounded from a loss on Friday at Mount St. Mary's to sweep a doubleheader against the Mount on Saturday. They won game one 8-4. They scored a season-high 27 runs and belted a season-high 27 hits in the game two 27-7 victory. The Blue Devils, among the nation's top hitting teams, had 12 different players drive in a run in the second game victory. The teams will finish the weekend series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Allaire finished the doubleheader 6-for-7 with four home runs, 10 runs batted in and six runs scored as the Blue Devils improved to 23-17 overall and 12-11 in Northeast Conference play. He is now hitting .449 on the season with a team-best 75 hits and team-high 60 runs batted in.

In the first game he homered twice, including a grand slam, and drove in six runs as Central won 8-4. Sophomore Mitch Wells and senior Kyle Zarotney each drove in a run in the victory.

Junior lefty Dave Krasnowiecki went the distance to pick up his team-best fifth victory of the season. He went seven innings, allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out eight. He is now 5-2 on the season.

In the second game the Blue Devils posted season-highs in runs and hits to claim the 27-7 victory. The 27 runs marks the second time this week they scored at least 21 runs in a game.

Three different players drive in four runs in the game, led by Allaire who homered two more times and scored four runs. He was 4-for-5 in the game.

Central hit seven home runs in the second game and nine in the two games. They now have 52 home runs on the season, extending their school-record that they set in Friday's game at the Mount. Allaire how has 10 on the season, good for second on the team behind junior Pat Epps' 13. The school-record is 16.

Epps had one home run in the second game, a grand slam in the second inning. It was one of three long balls in the inning for Central, including the first in the career of sophomore catcher Danny Hickey. Senior Richie Tri also hit a two-run homer as the Blue Devils sent 11 men to the plate and scored eight times.

They plated nine more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead. Twelve men came to the plate, nine reached by a hit and nine scored. Allaire hit his first home run of the game, a two-run shot, and also doubled in the inning. Senior Anthony Scialdone, senior Tommy Meade, Wells, Zarotney and junior Sean Miller-Jones also drove in runs in the frame.

They added six more runs in the seventh inning, including a grand slam by freshman Chris Renzoni. It was the second grand slam of the game for Central and the third of the doubleheader.

Also homering in the game for the Blue Devils was Zarotney who hit one in the sixth inning. Miller-Jones ended the game with three RBI and four runs scored.

Sophomore lefty Jack Greenhouse went the distance to improve to 4-1 on the season. He allowed 14 hits and seven runs while striking out four batters.

The Blue Devils and the Mount finish their weekend series with a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
