Baseball Drops Series Finale on Sunday to Quinnipiac
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 3-2 decision at home in the series finale on Sunday against Quinnipiac. Sophomore Mitch Wells had a solo home run for the Blue Devils. With the loss the Blue Devils fall to 17-15 overall and 10-10 in Northeast Conference play. Quinnipiac improves to 10-25 overall and 9-7 in league action. They took three of four games over the weekend against the Blue Devils.

home in the series finale on Sunday against Quinnipiac. Sophomore
Mitch Wells had a solo home
run for the Blue Devils. With the loss the Blue Devils fall to
17-15 overall and 10-10 in Northeast Conference play. Quinnipiac

Quinnipiac took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Joe
Poletsky doubled home Ben Farina who had singled and stolen
second.
The Blue Devils tied it up in the second inning when Wells hit his
fifth home run of the season to right center field. The Bobcats
scored an unearned run in the top of the third inning to take a 2-1
lead.
Central tied it up in the bottom of the sixth, 2-2. Senior Tommy
Meade doubled to lead off the inning, and with two outs, scored
on a single to left field by senior Kyle Zarotney.
Quinnipiac retook the lead in the seventh inning, 3-2. Farina
doubled home Mickey Amanti who had singled with one out.
The Blue Devils threatened in the seventh. Men were on first and
second with one out and junior Pat Epps at the plate. Epps
lined out hard to center field for the second out of the inning,
but the runner at first passed the runner at second, causing the
third out of the inning and ending the threat.
In the eighth, the Blue Devils put runners on second and third with
one out, but were unable to bring a run home and the score remained
3-2.
Sophomore lefty Jack Greenhouse went 6.1
innings for the Blue Devils, scattering nine hits and allowing two
earned runs. He struck out batters and did not walk a batter. He
came out with a man on and one out in the seventh. The runner
would scored the third run of the game for the Bobcats.
The Blue Devils return to action on the road at UConn on Wednesday
beginning at 3 p.m.
