Baseball Wins Game Two, Gets Split With Quinnipiac on Saturday

The Central Connecticut State University baseball team managed a split of a doubleheader at home on Saturday afternoon against Quinnipiac, winning game two 8-4. They dropped the first game 13-4. Senior pitcher Tommy Meade pitched a complete game in the second game to move to 3-0 on the season. Junior Pat Epps hit a three run home run to lead the offense. The teams will finish the weekend series at CCSU on Sunday at 1 p.m.

With the split the Blue Devils are now 17-14 overall and 10-9 in Northeast Conference play. Quinnipiac is 9-25 overall and 8-7 in league action.

In game one, Quinnipiac struck first in the top of the third inning, taking a 2-0 lead. Brian Monack and Joe Poletsky each drove in runs in the inning.

The Bobcats stretched the lead to 7-0 with five runs in the top of the fourth inning. A two-RBI triple by leadoff man Mickey Amanti highlighted the inning for Quinnipiac. Two of the runs in the inning were unearned, following an error which led off the frame.

Five more runs in the fifth gave Quinnipiac a 12-0 lead. Five different players drove in a run as the Bobcats had five hits in the inning.

Central got on the board on a solo home run to center field by senior Richie Tri in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Blue Devils scored three in the sixth to cut the lead to 12-4. Sophomore Mitch Wells drove in a pair of runs with a single, and Tyler Casserta walked with the bases loaded to account for the three runs.

Senior Sean Allaire ended game one with a pair of hits for the Blue Devils. Wells drove in a pair of runs in the loss.

In game two, Meade pitched the complete game allowing four runs on six hits. He moves to 3-0 on the season.

Central struck first in the bottom of the third inning. With one out Allaire doubled down the left field line to score the first run of the game. With two outs, junior Pat Epps hit a long three-run home run to center field to give Central the 4-0 lead.

With the bases loaded, junior Sean Miller-Jones singled through the right side and scored a pair of runs in the sixth. Allaire added an RBI single and senior Anthony Scialdone's RBI groundout made it 8-0.

Quinnipiac scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to cut the lead to 8-4.

Epps drove in three in the game, as the Blue Devils earned the split on Saturday.

The Blue Devils and Bobcats will finish the weekend series with a single nine-inning game in New Britain on Sunday at 1 p.m.
