Baseball Wins Fifth Straight, Tops Fairfield at Home on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut baseball team posted a season-high 23 hits and topped Fairfield 16-7 on Wednesday afternoon in New Britain. The Blue Devils, now 16-12 overall this season with their fifth straight victory, will return to action over the weekend hosting Quinnipiac in a Northeast Conference series. The first game will be on Friday at 3 p.m. in New Britain.

Britain. The Blue Devils, now 16-12 overall this season with their
fifth straight victory, will return to action over the weekend
hosting Quinnipiac in a Northeast Conference series. The first
game will be on Friday at 3 p.m. in New Britain.
Senior Sean Allaire had five hits
in his first five at-bats for the second straight day. He grounded
out to the second baseman in his sixth at-bat in the seventh
inning, ending a streak of 10 straight at bats with base hits. He
was also 5-for-5 in Tuesday's win at UMass.
Fairfield scored a single run in the first inning on a solo home
run. The Blue Devils answered with three runs in the bottom of the
inning to take a 3-1 lead. Junior Pat Epps drove in Allaire,
who had singled with one out in the inning. Senior Anthony
Scialdone drove in a run with a single and senior Richie
Tri was hit by a pitch to score the third run of the
inning.
The Stags tied it up in the second when David Dudish hit a two-run
home run with no outs. They took a 6-3 lead with a two-run home
run in the third by Jason Rago, and a third run scored following a
Blue Devil error.
With men on first and second and one out, junior Sean
Miller-Jones hit his third home run of the season, a three-run
shot, to tie the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the third.
Central took the lead in the fourth inning. Scialdone and Tri each
drove in their second runs of the game with doubles. Sophomore Danny
Hickey drove in a run with a single, and Miller-Jones singled
home his fourth run of the game with a single to right field.
Allaire doubled down the left field line to plate Tri, and the
sixth run scored on an RBI groundout by sophomore Mitch
Wells.
Senior Kyle Zarotney and Hickey
each drove in runs in the fifth, giving the Blue Devils a 14-6
lead. Allaire's fifth hit of the game drove in the third run of
the inning. In the eighth, Scialdone drove in his third run of the
game with a double to left field to make it 16-6.
Allaire led the offense with his five hits. Miller-Jones had three
hits and drove in four runs. Epps, Scialdone and Zarotney all
added three hits. Scialdone and Tri drove in three runs each.
The Blue Devils return to conference play this weekend hosting
Quinnipiac in a four-game series. It begins on Friday at 3 p.m. in
New Britain with a single nine-inning game.
