Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Bryant on Sunday

The Central Connecticut State University baseball team allowed five runs in the ninth inning of game two and dropped both ends of a doubleheader on the road at Bryant on Sunday. Senior Tommy Meade drove in four runs in game one but Bryant won 6-5. In the second game senior Sean Allaire drove in three but Central lost 10-9. The Blue Devils are now 10-11 overall and 6-6 in Northeast Conference action after dropping three of four over the weekend to Bryant.

Bryant won the first game 6-5, scoring a single run in the bottom of the seventh to claim the victory.

The Blue Devils, who trailed 5-2 entering the seventh, put three runs on the board to tie the score 5-5. Allaire, one RBI, and Meade, two RBI, provided the scoring punch for the Blue Devils in the inning.

Central trailed 2-0 after the Bulldogs put up two runs in the second inning. They tied the score 2-2 in the third inning. With two outs in the inning, the Blue Devils had a pair of runners on base when Meade singled to drive them both in.

Meade finished the game with four RBI to lead Central. Allaire drove in the other run. Meade, senior Richie Tri and junior Sean Miller-Jones all had two hits in the loss.

In game two Bryant took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the first inning. The Blue Devils answered with a pair of runs in the third. Allaire and senior Anthony Scialdone each drove in a run.

Bryant scored two more in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-2 lead. Central answered again with two in the fourth to tie it 4-4. Freshman catcher Andy Lalli and Miller-Jones each had an RBI to tie the game.

Bryant score one in the fifth, but Central answered with five straight runs to lead 9-5. They plated one in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Allaire. They scored two more in the eighth when Tyler Casserta and Miller-Jones each scored, one on an error and the other on a wild pitch. The two runs in the ninth came when sophomore Danny Hickey reached on a fielder's choice and Allaire added another sacrifice fly.

Bryant answered and capitalized on a pair of errors in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring five runs and claiming the 10-9 win. Central made four errors in the game, leading to a total of six unearned runs in the loss.

Meade and Allaire both ended the day with four RBI. The Blue Devils dropped three of four to Bryant over the weekend.
