Baseball Earns Split With Game Two Victory at Bryant on Saturday

Central Connecticut and Bryant needed extra-innings to decide the first game but the Blue Devils rebounded in the second game to hold Bryant to just one run to earn the split of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Bulldogs took the first game, 3-2, before the Blue Devils won the second 5-1. With the split the Blue Devils are now 10-9 overall and 6-4 in Northeast Conference play. The two teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m. in Smithfield.

In the first game the Bulldogs needed 10 innings to come away with the 3-2 victory. The game was scheduled for nine innings.

Bryant scored single runs in the first and fifth innings to claim the 2-0 lead. The Blue Devils scored two in the top of the ninth when junior Pat Epps singled to center field to score two runners.

Bryant scored a run in the 10th inning to claim the win.

Sophomore lefty Jason Foster was strong on the mound for Central in the first game. He pitched seven innings allowing only three hits, two runs and he struck out seven. He did not factor in the decision.

In the second game the Blue Devils took control in the second inning with four runs, and then another in the fifth. They led 5-1 after three innings and neither team would scored for the remainder of the game.

Junior Normand Gosselin hit a three-run home run and senior Sean Allaire tripled home Gosselin in the four-run second inning. In the third inning Epps scored on a wild pitch for the fifth run of the game.

Junior lefty Dave Krasnowiecki pitched the complete game for the Blue Devils, scattering seven hits, allowing one run and striking out four Bryant batters. He retired eight of the final nine batters he faced in the victory.

In game two Allaire and classmate Anthony Scialdone along with junior Sean Miller-Jones and sophomore Mitch Wells each had two hits. Wells had two hits in a game for the 13th time this season.

Epps had a hit in each game and increased his hitting streak to 13 games, the longest of the season for the Blue Devils. Allaire ran his streak to 10 games.

The Blue Devils and Bulldogs will finish the weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
