Baseball Hangs On For 10-8 Victory Over Iona on Sunday
Junior Normand Gosselin and sophomore Mitch Wells each had two hits and two RBI as the Central Connecticut baseball team improved to 3-5 overall on the season with a 10-8 victory over Iona on Sunday. The game was the third and final game for Central being played at Seton Hall in the Strike Out Cancer Tournament. The Blue Devils finished the weekend 2-1.

Gosselin and sophomore Mitch Wells each had two
hits and two RBI as the Central Connecticut baseball team improved
to 3-5 overall on the season with a 10-8 victory over Iona on
Sunday. The game was the third and final game for Central being
played at Seton Hall in the Strike Out Cancer Tournament. The Blue
Devils finished the weekend 2-1.
Junior Dave
Krasnowiecki picked up his second victory of the season on
Sunday. He pitched 6.0 innings allowing six hits and two earned
runs while striking out nine Iona batters. Sophomore Roy
Natoli picked up his first career save. He pitched the ninth
inning and struck out two without allowing a runner to reach
base.
The Blue Devils struck first with a single run in the top of the
first inning. Junior Pat Epps tripled to score
senior Richie Tri who had doubled
to lead off the game.
Iona took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs off of Krasnowiecki in the
bottom of the third inning. The two runners who scored were the
only two to advance passed second base for the Gaels in the six
innings the junior lefty was on the mound. He retired eight of the
final 11 batters he faced in the game. He struck out the side in
the third, had two in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Central retook the lead with four runs in the fourth, one in the
fifth and three more in the sixth inning, taking a 9-2 lead.
In the fourth, Gosselin, sophomore Danny Hickey, and seniors Kyle
Zarotney and Sean Allaire all drove in
runs. The first five batters of the inning reached base for
Central, and they sent eight batters to the plate while scoring
four. Central put up one in the fifth as Gosselin drove in his
second run of the game. They score three more in the sixth when
Wells drove in two and Hickey scored on a passed ball.
Iona scored three in the seventh and three more in the eighth to
make it 9-8. Zarotney scored on an error in the top of the ninth
to give Central the 10-8 lead.
Natoli shut the door on the Gaels in the ninth, striking out two
and sitting down the side in order.
Gosselin and Wells each had a pair of hits and two RBI. Senior Tommy
Meade was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Allaire, Zarotney, Hickey and Epps all drove in one.
