Allaire Drives in Two Runs as Blue Devils Top Stony Brook 4-3
The Central Connecticut State University baseball team won its second straight game, improving to 2-4 overall, topping Stony Brook 4-3 on Friday afternoon. The game was played at Seton Hall, and is the first of three games this weekend for Central. Senior Sean Allaire drove in two runs for the Blue Devils in the win. They play again on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Seton Hall.
The Central Connecticut State University baseball team won its
second straight game, improving to 2-4 overall, topping Stony Brook
4-3 on Friday afternoon. The game was played at Seton Hall, and is
the first of three games this weekend for Central. Senior Sean
Allaire drove in two runs for the Blue Devils in the win. They
play again on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Seton Hall.
The Seawolves scored single runs in the second and third innings
off of Blue Devil sophomore starter Harry
Glynne, taking a 2-0 lead.
Central scored two in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the
game at 2-2. Sophomore Mitch Wells tripled to lead
off the inning and scored on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of
senior Kyle Zarotney. Zarotney
scored later in the inning on the first RBI of the game from
Allaire, making it 2-2.
In the seventh inning, Central scored two more in the bottom of the
seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead. Wells singled to lead off the
inning and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from sophomore Danny
Hickey. Senior Richie Tri walked and
Allaire singled in Wells for the 3-2 edge. Senior Anthony
Scialdone singled to left center to plate Tri and give the Blue
Devils the two-run lead.
Glynne pitched five innings allowing five hits and two runs but did
not factor in the decision. He struck out three. Senior Donny
White picked up the victory pitching a third of an inning, he
is 1-0 on the season. Freshman Derek
Drag picked up his first collegiate save, pitching the final
1.1 innings and striking out one.
The Blue Devils return to action again on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
against Seton Hall. The final game of the weekend will be played
at 10 a.m. on Sunday vs. Iona.
