Scialdone Homers Twice But Baseball Drops 12-7 Decision at Monmouth on Friday Afternoon
Junior Anthony Scialdone had three hits, including a pair of home runs, and drove in four runs but the Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 12-7 decision at Monmouth in Northeast Conference play on Friday afternoon. A six-run seventh inning by the Hawks dropped the Blue Devils to 23-20 overall and 13-11 in league play. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.

inning by the Hawks dropped the Blue Devils to 23-20 overall and

Monmouth struck first with a single run in the bottom of the second
inning off of Blue Devil starter Derek
Roberts. The Blue Devils answered with four runs in the top of
the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Junior Sean
Allaire singled to lead off the inning and went to second on
walk to senior Casey Walko. Scialdone hit his third home run of
the season, a three-run shot, to give CCSU the 3-1 lead. Senior Jay
Schillaci homered with two outs in the inning, his sixth of the
season, to make it 4-1.
The Hawks answered with a three-run bottom of the third to tie the
game at 4-4. In the fourth the Blue Devils hit their third home
run of the game, a solo shot by Allaire, to make it 5-4. Monmouth
quickly tied the scored at 5-5 in the bottom of the inning.
In the fifth Scialdone hit his second home run of the game to make
it 6-5. He now has four on the season. An RBI double by junior Richie
Tri in the seventh upped the Blue Devil lead to 7-5.
The Hawks answered with six runs in the bottom of the inning and
one more in the eighth to make it 12-7.
CCSU hit four home runs in the game, including two by Scialdone.
He drove in four runs on the day. Schillaci and Allaire each added
a home run.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12
p.m.
