Pat Epps Drives in Five to Lead Baseball to Series Win with 11-7 Victory on Sunday at Quinnipiac
The Central Connecticut baseball team completed the series victory over Quinnipiac on Sunday with a 11-7 win in Hamden. CCSU won three in a row against the Bobcats after dropping the first game on Friday. Sophomore Pat Epps drove in five runs and had five hits to lead the offense. Senior lefty Derek Roberts improved to 3-1 on the season pitching 7.1 innings and allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out eight. CCSU is now 16-12 overall and 6-5 in Northeast Conference play with the victory.

3-1 on the season pitching 7.1 innings and allowing four runs on
eight hits while striking out eight. CCSU is now 16-12 overall and
6-5 in Northeast Conference play with the victory.
Epps finished the game with five hits, including three doubles, and
five RBI to lead the offense. In the three wins for the Blue
Devils over the Bobcats this weekend Epps drove in an impressive 11
runs. On the season he has 33 RBI to lead the team.
Central Connecticut took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning
on an RBI single by Epps. The Bobcats tied the game with a run off
Roberts in the bottom of the inning.
A three-run fifth inning pushed the Blue Devil lead to 4-1.
Juniors Richie Tri, Tommy Meade and senior catcher Sean Parker each drove in a run in the
inning. CCSU had four hits in the inning while pushing the lead to
three.
Quinnipiac got a run back in the bottom of the inning to cut the
lead to 4-2.
A three-run eighth inning gave the Blue Devils a 7-2 advantage.
Junior Sean Allaire singled to lead off the inning
and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Casey Walko. Epps doubled down the left
field line to score Allaire with the first run of the inning.
Tri's second RBI of the game scored junior Anthony Scialdone and Epps scored on a wild
pitch to make it 7-2.
Quinnipiac answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to
make it 7-5. Junior Chris Chagnon relieved Roberts in the
inning.
Epps secured the Blue Devil victory with a three-run double in the
top of the ninth inning. Walko drove in the fourth run of the
inning to make it 11-5 in favor of the visitors. The Bobcats added
a pair of runs on a home run in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Roberts finished his outing pitching 7.1 innings allowing eight
hits and four runs while striking out eight Bobcats. He also
walked three while improving to 3-1 on the season.
Central Connecticut returns to action on Tuesday night at home
hosting UMass at 7 p.m. at Beehive Field.
