Baseball Drops 9-5 Decision on Saturday at George Washington

The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped its third straight game to fall to 3-3 overall this season. CCSU lost 9-5 at George Washington on Saturday afternoon, their second straight loss to the Colonials. Junior Anthony Scialdone drove in two runs for the Blue Devils in the loss. CCSU and George Washington will finish the weekend series with a single game on Sunday at 12 p.m.

George Washington got on the board first with four runs in the bottom of the first inning off of Blue Devil starter Taylor Kosakowski. A two-run, two-out home run by Stephen Oswald capped the scoring and gave the home team the 4-0 lead.

The Blue Devils took a 5-4 lead with five runs in the top of the third inning. Scialdone drove in a pair of runs with a double to left field to make it 4-2.
Senior Casey Walko singled in a run and junior Tommy Meade's RBI single tied the score at 4-4. Freshman Mitch Wells drove in the fifth run of the game for the Blue Devils and gave CCSU its first lead of the weekend.

Five more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Colonials gave the home team a 9-5 advantage. Kosakowski was charged with all nine runs, although only five of those were earned. An error in the fifth inning led to four unearned runs and the four-run deficit for the Blue Devils. The senior right pitched six innings allowing seven hits and striking out three.

Both teams finished the game with nine hits but the Blue Devils made three errors in the field, helping lead to the unearned runs in the fifth inning.

Scialdone drove in two runs to lead the offense for CCSU. Sean Allaire had three hits and Walko, Meade and Wells all drove in a run in the loss.

The Blue Devils and Colonials will finish the weekend series with a final game beginning at noon on Sunday.
