Baseball Faces Top Seed Wagner in Elimination Game at 12 p.m.

The Central Connecticut baseball team will need to win four straight games to claim its fourth Northeast Conference title, and they are back in action today at 12 p.m. CCSU faces top seed Wagner in the first elimination game of the tournament. The loser of the game is out of the tourney, the winner advances to play again on Saturday at 12 p.m. You can follow all of the action live on CCSUBlueDevils.com.

Baseball Season Ends With Extra-Inning Loss to Top Seed Wagner on Friday

Central Connecticut hit four home runs but watched a 5-2 lead turn into a 6-5 extra-inning loss in an elimination game in the 2009 Northeast Conference Baseball Tournament. Senior catcher Sean Parker hit a pair of home runs in the game for the Blue Devils and drove in three runs. CCSU ends its 2009 campaign with a 26-22 overall record.

Baseball Drops Slugfest to Second Seed Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference Tournament

The Central Connecticut baseball team will need to come out of the loser's bracket if they are going to claim their fourth Northeast Conference Tournament title. CCSU dropped a slugfest to second-seed Sacred Heart on Thursday afternoon, 16-13, in the first round of the championship. With the loss the Blue Devils are a loss away from elimination, and will face top-seed Wagner at 12 p.m. on Friday. Wagner dropped a 14-8 decision to fourth-seed Monmouth in the first game of the day. Junior Richie Tri tied a championship record with six RBI, including a grand slam, for the Blue Devils in the loss. CCSU is now 26-21 this season.

Five Blue Devils Named to All-Northeast Conference Baseball Team

Five Central Connecticut baseball players were named All-Conference on Wednesday night, on the eve of the start of the 2009 NEC Baseball Tournament. The Blue Devils, the #3 seed in the tourney, will play Sacred Heart at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. At New Britain Stadium on Wednesday night, all four teams gathered for a barbecue to honor the two All-Conference teams. Senior Sean Parker, juniors Anthony Scialdone, Sean Allaire and Richie Tri, and sophomore Pat Epps were all honored for their efforts during the 2009 season.

Extra Inning Victory Sends Blue Devils to Third Seed in Northeast Conference Tournament

Junior Anthony Scialdone drove in the game-winning run with a single in the top of the 10th inning as the Central Connecticut baseball team topped Monmouth 3-2, and advanced to this week's Northeast Conference Baseball Tournament. The Blue Devils won three straight games to claim the third seed in the upcoming tournament, which will be played at New Britain Stadium starting on Thursday. CCSU will play at 3:30 p.m. against #2 seed Sacred Heart. #1 seed Wagner will face #4 Monmouth at 12 noon.

Baseball Keeps NEC Tournament Hopes Alive With Sweep of Monmouth on Saturday

The Central Connecticut baseball season will come down to one game. With a doubleheader sweep (11-6, 8-5) of Monmouth on Saturday, the Blue Devils have moved into a tie with Mount St. Mary's for the fourth and final spot in the next week's Northeast Conference Tournament. The Mount has finished their conference season. CCSU plays at Monmouth on Sunday at 1 p.m. With a win they advance to the tournament and be the third seed. A loss ends the 2009 campaign for the Blue Devils.

Scialdone Homers Twice But Baseball Drops 12-7 Decision at Monmouth on Friday Afternoon

Junior Anthony Scialdone had three hits, including a pair of home runs, and drove in four runs but the Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 12-7 decision at Monmouth in Northeast Conference play on Friday afternoon. A six-run seventh inning by the Hawks dropped the Blue Devils to 23-20 overall and 13-11 in league play. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.

Baseball Drops 6-3 Decision at UConn on Monday Afternoon

Junior Sean Allaire drove in a pair of runs but the Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision at UConn on Monday afternoon. With the loss the Blue Devils falls to 23-19 overall this season. They return to action this weekend at Monmouth in an important Northeast Conference series beginning on Friday. The Blue Devils currently stand in fifth place, just a half game out of the fourth and final tournament spot, with four regular season league games remaining.

Mount St. Mary's Wins Halted Game on Saturday Morning in New Britain

Mount St. Mary's hit a two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning to come away with an 11-9 victory on Saturday morning. The game was originally halted on Thursday night at 11 p.m. due to dense fog in the New Britain area. Play resumed on Saturday morning in the top of the eighth inning with the Blue Devils leading 7-6. With the loss the Blue Devils fall to 22-18 overall and 12-10 in the Northeast Conference. The Mount improves to 21-22 overall and 13-8 in league play.

Eight-Run Fifth Inning Leads Blue Devils to Saturday Victory Over Mount St. Mary's

Central Connecticut scored eight runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 15-3 victory over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon. Senior lefty Derek Roberts pitched eight innings allowing three runs and eight hits to improve to a team-best 6-1 on the season. With the win the Blue Devils improve to 23-18 overall and 13-10 in the Northeast Conference. The Mount falls to 21-23 overall and 13-9 in the league.

Blue Devils Lose Both Ends of Northeast Conference Doubleheader, Drop Second Contest in Extra Innings

Central Connecticut (22-17, 12-9) lost both ends of a Northeast Conference home doubleheader versus Mount St. Mary's (20-22, 12-8) on Beehive Field in New Britain. Senior Ken Kerski struck out a season-high 11 batters in the opener, a 4-3 loss. Junior Anthony Scialdone had his 28-game hit streak snapped with an 0-for-3 effort. The Blue Devils then lost, 9-8, in a nine-inning affair. Junior Sean Allaire went 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Junior Richie Tri added three hits, including two doubles. Senior Jay Schillaci, who stretched his hit streak to 16 games in the opener, went 0-for-4. Senior Sean Parker contributed a combined 3-for-5 day at the plate. He had two doubles and four RBI.

Tuesday's Baseball Game Versus Hartford Canceled

Tuesday's baseball game between Central Connecticut and Hartford has been canceled due to weather conditions in the New Britain area. The game has not been rescheduled. Tuesday's Baseball Game Moved to 2 p.m. at Beehive Field; Changes to Mount Series This Weekend

Tuesday's baseball game between Central Connecticut and Hartford has been moved to a 2 p.m. start. The game, originally scheduled for 7 p.m., will be the only non-conference game of the week for the Blue Devils. Changes are also taking place in the Mount St. Mary's series this weekend. CCSU and the Mount will play a single game at 7 p.m. on Thursday night, a doubleheader on Friday beginning at noon, and a single game on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. All of the games will be at Beehive Field in New Britain.

Scialdone's Hit Streak Reaches 27 as Blue Devils Top Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday

Junior shortstop Anthony Scialdone ran his hitting streak to 27 games as the Central Connecticut baseball team topped Fairleigh Dickinson 14-8 on Sunday afternoon in New Britain. The Blue Devils trailed 4-0 after the first half inning but scored nine unanswered runs to come away with the victory. Sophomore Pat Epps drove in four runs in the victory. With the win the Blue Devils improve to 22-15 overall and remain in a tie for first place in the Northeast Conference with a 12-7 mark. The Blue Devils return to action on Tuesday hosting Hartford at Beehive Field in New Britain.

CCSU Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday

The Central Connecticut baseball team split a doubleheader with Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday afternoon at Beehive Field in New Britain. The Blue Devils won the first game 6-2 and dropped the second 5-2. With the split the Blue Devils are now 21-15 overall and 11-7 in Northeast Conference play. The Knights are now 12-28 overall and 7-12 in league action. Senior lefty Ken Kerski pitched a complete game for the victory in game one and junior Anthony Scialdone stretched his hitting streak to 26 games with hits in both ends of the doubleheader. CCSU and FDU will complete the weekend series on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m.
