2015 TD Bank Classic Recap
Last season in Burlington, New Hampshire earned three points in the tournament to take home the TD Bank Classic title for the third time in 15 years. Vermont won its opening round game against Kent State, 1-0, before falling to Quinnipiac 2-1 to close out the weekend. Vermont Sophomore
Casey Garfinkel and then-senior
Caroline Greer were named to the All-Tournament team.
Â
Scouting the Wildcats
New Hampshire is coming off a stalemate of a weekend to open the 2016 campaign. The Wildcats played to a scoreless draw with Siena and then earned a 1-1 tie with Colgate last weekend. New Hampshire is just a season removed from winning the 2014 America East title and boasts the 2015 conference Striker of the Year in junior Brooke Murphy. UNH was picked to finish fourth in the America East preseason poll.
Â
Scouting the Jaspers
Manhattan opened the season with a 1-1-0 weekend dropping a 1-0 decision to Hartford before rebounding to take on LIU Brooklyn, 2-1. The Jaspers placed three players on the preseason All-MAAC team including senior Jenny Bitzer – the 2016 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Manhattan was slated for a fourth place finished in the Metro Atlantic following a 2015 campaign that saw 11 Jasper wins and a trip to the conference semifinals.
Â
Scouting the Blue Devils
Central Connecticut opened the season with a pair of losses to St. John's and to America East foe Maine last weekend. The Blue Devils were slated for a second-place finish in the Northeast Conference and won the NEC title back in 2014. CCSU returns a stalwart defense anchored by two-time NEC Goalkeeper of the year Nicki Turley and the 2015 NEC Defensive player of the Year Jennifer Cafferky.
Â
Series Histories
Vermont has had its fair share of success against CCSU having gone unbeaten in seven all-time matchups with the Blue Devils (5-0-2). The Catamounts have been on the sour end of a pair of games against Manhattan going 0-2-0 against the Jaspers all-time.
