Morabito, Mellitt Named NEC Fall Scholar-Athletes
Blue Devil fall sports have 136 student-athletes named to the NEC Academic Honor Roll
Central Connecticut State cross country runners Brooke Morabito and Brendan Mellitt were named the 2024 Northeast Conference Fall Scholar-Athletes for their respective sports. The conference announced the fall scholar-athlete awards on Friday.

The NEC also unveiled its fall Academic and Commissioner's Honor Rolls. The Blue Devils had 136 fall student-athletes honored with selection to the NEC Academic Honor Roll, earned by posting a 3.2 cumulative GPA. The Commissioner's Honor Roll is earned by compiling a 3.75 cumulative GPA, a level reached by 42 fall student-athletes. In addition, eight fall student-athletes have 4.0 cumulative GPA's in their current academic program
Morabito takes home the women's cross-country scholar-athlete accolade after completing one of the greatest cross-country seasons in school and conference history. She became just the third NEC female cross-country runner to earn an NCAA Championship selection, earning an at-large selection after placing eight at the NCAA Northeast Regional.
A native of New Milford, CT, Morabito won the NEC Championship individual crown, in a course record, 16:39.60, at Stanley Quarter Park. That effort helped the Blue Devils to the team title as well. Morabito also became the first Blue Devil to win the individual title at the New England Championships, as part of her historic 2024 campaign.
With the accolade on Friday, Morabito completes the NEC Scholar-Athlete triple crown, winning the 2024 NEC Indoor and 2024 Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete awards. Morabito is working on a graduate degree in Counselor Education with a 4.0 GPA in her major field.
Mellitt, a Cheshire, CT native, takes home the accolade in his lone season with the Blue Devils. His runner-up finish at the NEC Championship helped the Blue Devils capture a second consecutive NEC title. Mellitt placed sixth placed in the New England Championship, part of the team effort that resulted in a team title at that event as well, the second in program history. Mellitt has a 4.0 GPA in his Master in Social Work program at CCSU.
The Fall Academic Honor Roll, consisting of 1,228 student-athletes with a 3.20 or better grade point average, the third-highest total in league history. There were also 480 student-athletes named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll with a 3.75 or better grade point average, just shy of the league record 498 from 2021.
